Els Meijne

I grew up in the most beautiful area of Holland, at the North Sea along the Dunes, surrounded by fields of Tulips and other wild flowers. As a child I loved the outdoors. You could always find me in the dunes, making a tree or ground hut from the wood gathered along the shores.
Fast-forward to the pleasure of restoring a log home in British Columbia. The entire experience left a lasting impression and the realization for the need to recycle. I then started to create frames and candle holders from the remnant wood.
In my subsequent move to Ontario I amassed all kinds of driftwood; it became an obsession. I started making all sorts of tables, frames, trays and signs. I love creating something new from something old. It's like giving it a second life.
I love every piece I make. It might be simple but it is something heartfelt.
