Until a decade ago I never thought I'd be an alpaca farmer, let alone a producer of fibre and yarn. The spinning wheel pictured in my avatar was carved by by my great grand-father. It's always been around me but it's taken on new significance now. Threads of South American connections from my family and that little miniature spinning wheel have been woven into a new story. We love alpacas! We started with two and currently have a herd of 70 Huacaya alpacas in South Western Ontario, Canada. Alpaca is lanolin free, which allows for the hypoallergenic nature of the fibre. Most people who are sensitive to woolen products find that they can wear alpaca without the same sensitivity. Each individual strand of Alpaca fibre has a hollow core that gives it incredible thermal properties, and allows it to breathe. Alpaca insulates from cool and warm temperatures. Alpaca is comfortable in any season.
