Dewy was born and raised in Port Huron Michigan. She began traveling and lived for some time Maui, Hawaii, Dewy returned to Port Huron Michigan in 1976. Shortly after her return, she moved to Sarnia, Ontario.
In the fall of 2004 she took pottery classes at Lambton Collage. During this educational experience she came to realize when she was playing in clay she felt one with the earth.
Dewy has a love of travel. In North America she has been to many US states and Canadian provinces as well she has been to Spain, Romania, Germany and many Islands in the Caribbean. The travel provides inspiration and you can see the influence in her work today. She continues to travel and visit museums. These outings offer opportunity to explore how pottery and ceramics developed over the years.
Her work today encompasses materials; such as different clays, beads, woods; and many other materials. She uses these in her pottery and jewelry designs.
Dewy has taken many workshops with instructors such as Carolynne Pynn-Trudeau, Tony Clennell, Keith Campbell, and also a Raku workshop with Robert Piepenburg. Alternative firing classes were taken from Chris Snedden.
Pottery is one of the oldest human technologies and art-forms. The word pottery comes from the Old English word thrawan, which means to twist or turn), a ball of clay.
Her studio, which is a short walk from Lake Huron in Sarnia, Ontario, is located on a one-acre property backing onto the Howard Watson nature trail. The studio overlooks the large yard allowing her to enjoy the many gardens and surrounding woods.
