Walter PeperWalter Peper
With 33 years experience as a carpenter, Walter Peper decided to start his own business, offers his customers everything from new log homes to renovations and from handsome wood carvings to fieldstone fireplaces and much more...
"I was born in Germany and learned carpentry there," says Peper, 49. "I lived in Africa 20 years ago and started appreciating the carving that I saw there.” It was simply fascinating to watch the locals carved beautiful figures with just sharpened stones, so decided that I would learned how to do that."
Two years later when Peper came back to Canada and began an apprenticeship with a log home building school in Ottawa, Canada and was trained in the construction of round log homes and square timber log homes, two styles he particularly enjoys building.
It was then that log carving and the chainsaw came together for Mr. Peper. “Just a simple knife and a piece of stick and that’s how the love of chainsaw carving began 25 years ago for me,” says Mr. Peper.
However, for six years, Peper worked for a local contractor and has now embarked on a different venture, is Peper Mint Construction. As you can see from the pictures, they make a distinctive statement of the craftsmanship, skill and creativity that Peper Mint Construction will bring to you.
"I've been in carpentry all my life and I will tackle just about any job," he said. "So far this year, I've done some bedroom and bathroom renovations and right now I'm working on an, elaborate deck."
Soon, an example of Peper's chainsaw carving will be on display outside the new Inn of the Good Shepherd homeless shelter on Confederation St. He is donating a five-foot-long carving of a pair of giving hands which will be displayed in their tranquility gardens.
Peper will also be demonstrating at the upcoming Artwalk in downtown Sarnia. This is held June 5&6 as well as, the upcoming Sarnia Lambton Artists' Studio Tour.
