Jack Keefe

Jack was born in the small northern Ontario town of South Porcupine, and grew up in Sarnia. He has been married to Toni since 1965, and together they raised three sons. Jack is a member of Sarnia Artist’s Workshop and a founding member of the Art Group 6+1. He meets with this Art Group of fellow artists who gather weekly to share critique, instruction, and encouragement. He has had work at numerous juried art shows and exhibits. He is a member of the Lawrence House Centre for the Arts, Gallery in the Grove, and Sarnia Artist’s Workshop (SAW), and has studied oil painting, acrylics, and water colours at Lambton College: David Korff (oil painting), Gary Nixon (water colour basics), Mary Abma (water colours 1-4) and Ariel Lyons (water colours 4), and has taken courses with Joyce Orsby C.S.P.W.C, Anthony Batten C.S.P.W.C. S.F.C.A. S.C.A, Jane Hunter, Ariel Lyons (colour application, water colours), and Mary Abma, In November of 2006 Jack won the Mayor’s Award at the Lawrence House Centre for the Arts in Sarnia with his painting “One Winter’s Day” (the Coast Guard Cutter the Griffon making its way through the ice on Lake Huron), which remains on permanent display at the Lawrence House. In November of 2009 he won the Honourable Mention Award at the Lawrence House Centre for the Arts for his painting of “Cottage Memories”. Since 2003, he has consistently been juried into the open competition for Ontario artists at the Paint Ontario Show in Grand Bend, and he was selected to paint the cover for the Grey/Bruce B&B Association for the years 2008-‘09 and 2009–’10. This April Jack stepped down as director of ” 6+1 “ Art Group, a position he held for 10 years. He also works with the V.O.N. Day Care Centre, doing art therapy on a weekly basis.
